A CENTURY OF TUDOR WEEKENDS.
Kentwell Hall the magnificent moated Tudor mansion in Long Melford Suffolk, noted for its
Re-Creations of 16th C. domestic life hosts its last Re-Creation of Tudor Life for 1999
over the weekend of 17th & 18th September.
"The Re-Creations are very popular with the public" says Patrick Phillips of
Kentwell "We keep adding extra weekends but the public are disappointed that we do not
do them all of the time. However there is a limit to the endurance of our Participants and
ourselves, as it makes great demands on all of us."
"This weekend will mark a century of Tudor weekends for us and it is fitting that we
shall be in the year 1520 which saw one of the great events of the Tudor era - The Field
of the Cloth of Gold" he added, "The occasion was not called that until later but
it was recognised as a momentous and extravagant event at the time. There has probably
never been a diplomatic occasion like it."
Visitors who came in the summer will have seen the preparations for those of the Clopton
family who attended. Visitors coming this weekend will be able to find out what happened.
